A truss is an A-Frame component made up of 1 center fitting which gives us the slope, 2 tubes which gives us the width and 2 clamps which attach the truss to the kennel.

The more the number of trusses, the stronger the roof cover will be. Below you’ll find some suggestions (based on a 10 x 10 kennel cover):
3 truss in protected city environment e.g. lower Texas, Florida, Arizona, Georgia and South Carolina
4 truss – Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina and Oregon
5 truss – Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, New Jersey and Ohio
6 truss – Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey and Ohio
7 truss – Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, Maine, Montana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Utah
8 truss – Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Maine, Montana, North

The suggested number of trusses for other kennel sizes may vary. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Dakota, Rhode Island and Utah

Our kennel roof kits will fit all round tubing kennels from 1″ to 1-3/4 round and kennels with square tubing up to 1-1/4. The info we need is the size of tubing of your kennel and / or the brand name. If you have any questions, please contact us.

I started like everyone else, threw a blue tarp on top of my kennel. When it rained, the water pooled in the middle of the tarp which caved in the kennel. I then went to single ridge cover but that was not a good idea for our Kansas winds. Next, I came up with a basic type of kennel cover and experimented with different pitches, high, low, etc. The pitch I offer now is by far the best all-around shade/rain system. The most care-free and worry-free shade kit is the standard/heavy kit.

Here are some suggestions: the basic 2 truss for 4,5, 6′ and 7-1/2′ wide kennels is suggested for all deep southern and mostly sunny regions of the country. The standard 3 truss kit is recommended for the lower mid-states and for windy locations. The standard heavy 4 truss or more truss kits are suggested for all kennels in the upper 2/3 of the country, and any mountainous, windy locations.

Yes, we have a shade kit to fit these type kennels. Just make sure you let us know what type of kennel you have, so we can outfit you with the best fit for your kennel.

Since we manufacture our frames, 99% of the time we can make a custom steel frame, we are only limited by the size of tarps we can get at a reasonable price.

All our kits have the same quality tarps and bungees. The main difference is strength and reliability. The more trusses the stronger the roof. Here is a list of kits: Basic 2 Truss, Standard 3 Truss, Standard Heavy 4 or more Trusses.

Yes our 4ply 100% sunblocker tarps are also water proof.

The steel frame should last as long and most likely longer than your kennel. The tarps are rated 1 year usage. In my region, they are lasting 2-3 years, sometimes longer. Durability of the tarp depends on the UV factor of the sun and the acid rain in your area.

If you don’t follow our instructions it could. The more trusses you have the better the chances your roof will survive a sudden snow storm. The most common mistake that makes any tarp shade kit fail is improper tarp installation. Tarps need to be kept taut, good quality ball bungees are a must. A tarp that is not taut will allow rain or snow to pool and you could lose your kennel or even worse, injure you pet.

Our sun blocker tarps are just that, thicker 4-ply, not 3-ply. And, they keep the kennel area much cooler than discount silver tarps. If you hold a discount tarp up to the sunlight and place your hand behind it, you will see the shadow of your hand. Rule of thumb is, if you can see the shadow of your hand more heat will penetrate through the tarp and these types of tarps are not suited for a dog kennel.

Our silver sun blocker tarps are 4-ply and you won’t find this quality for this price locally. We now offer our tarps and ball bungees to the general public on our website. Owners of our shade kits enjoy a life time discount to original owner for any replacement tarps and ball bungees and will receive a discount code for replacements
